GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER

By Todd Kreidler

Based on the Screenplay GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER by William Rose

A progressive white couple's proud liberal sensibilities are put to the test when their daughter, fresh from a whirlwind romance, brings her African-American fiancé home to meet them. Personal beliefs clash with the mores of the late 1960s in this warm and funny exploration of love and culture and which of them has the greater hold on our hearts.

On the Golden Anniversary of the iconic film, Savannah Rep is proud to present a new stage adaptation of GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER.  When the film premiered in of December 1967, Martin Luther King, Jr. was still alive and racial issues were bubbling and there were massive differences in attitude between eastern, southern and western viewpoints. Now, 50 years later, this beloved comedy of manners has a new, totally electric adaptation for the stage with a fresh perspective to the themes that are as relevant as ever.

In GA playwright Todd Kreidler’s adaptation of Willliam Rose’s original screenplay, familiar themes, scenes and characters are refocused to offer a look back to see how far we’ve come and, sometimes, how far we haven’t.

Featuring Savannah Rep’s mix of Broadway and regional pros, along with some of the great professionally-focused local actors, GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER will be a sterling launch to our first regular season in the PLAYShop!
